Are You Afraid of the Dark? movie

This has to be one of the coolest news about an upcoming movie that I’ve read in a while. Now growing up I watched a fair share of this show it originally aired in the 90s on Nickelodeon and YTV in Canada. It was a part of SNICK and I really enjoyed the show, and some of the episodes still hold up after two decades. Now according to The Hollywood Reporter the writer of It, Gary Dauberman, will be tackling this. In every episode of the show The Midnight Society, a group of teenaged friends,  met and one of them told a scary story. Some characters appeared in multiple stories like Sardo and Dr. Vink and there were a couple of multi part episodes. It would be wonderful if this films featured Gary and Tucker’s kids running a new Midnight Society, featuring an appearance of Ross Hull and Daniel DeSanto. I hope that this could eventually turn into a several film series with different stories being told, perhaps with different directors and writers tackling each new film

Nickelodeon’s 90s revival

This upcoming year is going to be a time for many revivals in the form of TV movies. First up this November Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie will come out it takes place two years after the show ended. There is a first look up on YouTube as well as a sneak peak.   It looks like it will be a whole lot better than that Legends of the Hidden Temple movie they made last year.  Sometime in 2018 Rocko’s Modern Life comes back with an hour special which brings back the whole cast to reprise their roles and at Comic Con they had a sneak peak. This has the same feeling of the original show and it’s on this list of shows that i want to watch.  I hope that we don’t have to wait all the way to next November for Rocko to come out. but who really knows. Now if they could only do some other live action shows as well like Are you Afraid of the Dark?, Pete and Pete, or just throw a dart up there at the NickSplat lineup. These were all fun shows and the I’m sure that the fans of the old shows would love to see some of these come back as long as they are good.

Double Dare Reunion Special

This sounds like a fun event and must see television over Thanksgiving. My sisters and I watched a lot of Double Dare growing up be it super sloppy or the family we were watching it. The mix of the trivia contest and the physical challenges were fun. So I saw on Youtube that Double Dare was having a reunion special to celebrate 30 years of the show I thought that sounds cool.  It will be broadcast on Nick at Nite as well as The Splat on November 23 so if you enjoyed the show growing up give it a watch again.

News Roundup

Pope Francis: The Vatican has confirmed the announced that Francis will be making his way to Mexico in 2016. Not much is really known about the trip other than a visit to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. 2016 looks like a busy traveling year for Francis, he will be going to Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Poland (World Youth Day), Malta and Armenia along with the newly confirmed Mexico. That’s a lot of countries to visit and there has already been confirmation about a trip to Fatima in 2017. Pope Francis will be a busy since he also will be writing some sort of Apostolic Exhortation about the 14th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops which is focusing on the vocation and mission of the family in the Church and in the contemporary world.

ABC Family: After years of being some sort of “family” network ABC Family will be rebranded in the New Year as Freeform. Not much else will change with the network, just the name and it will be a break from the ABC/Disney naming conventions, Freefrom will still try to build up it’s own network shows and I can only assume that the Harry Potter marathons and the classic 25 days of Christmas programming blocks will stay the same.

The Splat: As I speculated back when it was first announced it’s like an Adult Swim on Teen Nick, the one big problem that I have with the network is that it is not in HD at this point, but at least there is now a place where I can watch some of the classic shows from the 90s.

News roundup

Television: First off  fall television will be starting up next week so be prepared for my review of what new shows I’m watching this year.

The Splat? It seems like Nickelodeon is embracing the nostalgia of those  clamoring for more Classic Nick (90s and early 2000s) programs. As of right now I’m not sure if it is a new programming block to go along side The 90s are All That on Teen Nick or if it will becoming like an Adult Swim type channel that keeps the focus on programs from the 90s. This will happen in October so more will be known soon.

The final bit of television news is that someone completed all stages of the American Ninja Warrior. Actually two individuals made it to the end and got Total Victory.  American Ninja Warrior is adapted from Sasuke, a Japanese program aired as Ninja Warrior in the US, in Japan it has been run 31 times and only 5 people have ever completed the complete course. This season of American Ninja Warrior was it’s seventh and we had two winners.

Movies: This really isn’t news it’s someone’s opinion about movie trailers. They suggest that trailers for film coming out are giving too much of the story away. I have to agree that sometimes it seems the trailers are better than the movie. I think this is especially true with comedies which load the trailer with the jokes and make it seems like it is funnier than it really is. Half the time from what I see in a first trailer to come out that interests me in the film sort of falls by the wayside when the second and addition trailers come out. I mean Tomorrowland looked like a cool movie from it’s first trailer but by the third one I’d basically seen a cliff notes version of the movie. I didn’t rush out and see the movie and it got mediocre reviews in the press as well. This is another reason I don’t rush out and go see every movie that comes out, not to mention the cost of going to the movies as well.
