Crowning of Mary

The Fifth and Final Glorious Mystery

The Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. (Song of Songs 4.8, Psalms 44.11-12 and Revelation 12.1-7) Fruit of the Mystery: Perseverance and Crown of Glory, Trust in Mary’s Intercession

So this is the one mystery that has the weirdest collection of Scripture of any of the other decades. In Revelation we are told that a woman appeared in the sky clothed of the Sun with the moon at her feet and on her head was a crown with twelve stars, it is strongly implied that this is Mary, the new Eve conquering the dragon. Then we also have some scripture from the Old Testament among which we have something from The Song of Songs of Solomon, which happens to be one of the strangest books in the Bible, as it is highly allegorical story about the relationship of Israel and their God. After Mary let the earth, she is crowned as Queen of Heaven and of Earth. Mary now in heaven acts as our intercessor, if we can’t seem to get in touch with Jesus, we can always call on his Mother to help us.

It seems apropos to be meditating on the Crowning of Mary, as we are about to begin one of the months dedicated to her. Mary throughout her life shows us how we should live. Although she is given a painful truth by Simeon “a sword will pierce your heart” at the Presentation Mary stays the course. Watching Jesus grow up and eventually lay down his life for his people. Then we have Mary who simply responded Yes that makes it all possible. I hope that during this week we are able to make some simple choice that perhaps changes the world.
