Today we’ve reached the penultimate week of Professional Football season until the Alliance of American Football kicks off on February 9th. It begins with the NFC and the Rams facing the Saints in New Orleans while in the AFC the Patriots travel to Kansas City to face the Chiefs. Now both of these games are rematches from earlier in the season, in the NFC the Saints hosted back in November and won by 10, in the AFC the Chiefs traveled to New England back in October and lost by 3. It seems like the NFL might be hoping for another rematch in the Super Bowl with the Chiefs and Rams who combined for 105 point back in the middle of November. I’m sure that most of the nation would like to see Brady and Belichick not make it to the Super Bowl for their ninth time. They have struggled on the road this season and on the road in the Championship game as well. It would be great if Kansas City could get back to the Super Bowl after almost a half century.
Predictions: Saints and Chiefs make it to the Super Bowl.
It’s Monday and the most exciting games of the whole NCAA football season FBS (I-A) is going to be played tonight as we have Alabama and Clemson meeting again in the CFP, for the third time in the National Championship game and the fourth time overall. Boy are we all excited to see this game again, I hope that Clemson wins and we all get part 5 at the end of next season. Now this is nothing like the dominance of North Dakota State in the FCS, the lower division (AA) who have won 7 titles in the past decade to be clear that really is 7 titles in 8 years.
This year will be the first time since 2013 that the Champion will be undefeated, if we forget about UCF being undefeated last year and claiming a National title for being Undefeated. Will Saban over take the great Bear Bryant with another Championship, with a win Nick Saban will have 7 overall and tiring Bryant with six at Alabama. While it would be wonderful if Alabama or Clemson wins again I would surely like to see some other teams emerge as title threats but it doesn’t help when Alabama is the top recruiting class each year and Clemson is up there as well.
So best of luck to those kids playing in the game tonight and hopefully the game is better than what we watched last week in the semifinals.
On Sunday we have the Championship games for the AFC and NFC. It starts on CBS at 3 eastern time in New England where Tom Brady and company are going to try and win another Championship (10) this is their seventh consecutive time in the AFC Championship game. New England is playing at home and they will face the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are looking to win their first. Everyone has to be thinking that the Patriots are going to win given that, but maybe Jacksonville can eek out a win. These teams met in the first week of the Preseason and Jacksonville won but who really knows. After this game is over on FOX the NFC Championship will begin at 6:40 or so eastern time in Philly where the Eagles will face off against the Vikings. Both of which have made it to the Super Bowl in the past but have not won The Big Game yet. It has been 40 some years since the Vikings have won the NFC Championship game while it been only a dozen years for the Eagles. As for predictions I would love it if the Vikings win on Sunday and become the first team to play the Super Bowl at their home stadium. Minnesota also had one of the strongest defenses all season and we all know that Defense wins Championships. As for that other game It would be amazing if Jacksonville could win but I think we all know that New England will be winning number 10 and going to yet another Super Bowl.
It’s the game that no one wanted Georgia and Alabama. i am sure that everyone but those in Alabama, except for those in Auburn, are rooting for the Georgia Bulldogs. This is the other SEC Championship, sure Alabama didn’t win their division or even play in the Championship game but Georgia will be playing them tonight. Georgia is 13-1 while Alabama is 12-1. If Nick Saban wins this will tie him with Bear Bryant as the most National Championships as a coach however it will only be Saban’s fifth at Alabama, where as all six of Bryant’s were at Alabama. Now, Alabama if you didn’t know is the cream of the crop in College football only behind Princeton (28) and Yale (27) for most Championships all time with a only 16. I won’t be watching so whoever wins wins. Alabama has been in the game the past three years winning one and losing the other both in close games to Clemson. The Georgia/Oklahoma game was the best one so far this bowl season and Georgia has played several close games this season where Alabama hasn’t had to play close at all this season, so it should be an interesting game.
This Sunday we have the big games the ones that matter and once again they are rematches from earlier in the season.
In the NFC we have the Packers traveling to Atlanta once again this time hoping to avenge an earlier loss where the Falcons squeaked by with a point win. This will be the last game ever played at the Georgia Dome as their new Stadium will open in July, so emotions will be high in Atlanta. The Falcons have the high powered offense, while the Packers have Aaron Rogers who seems to do just about anything. Over in the AFC we’ve got the Steelers traveling to New England now the week 7 game which the Patriots won was a long time ago and Big Ben wasn’t playing . This will only be the ninth meeting between Brady and Big Ben. This will be a challenge for New England as they face a team that has a chance to beat them, but also for Pittsburgh as they will need to score more than field goals to win.
It seems likely that both of these will be a good games whoever win. As for my picks it would be wonderful if Atlanta could make it to the Super Bowl for the second time and this time win, or the Packers and Aaron Rodgers taking home a second Super Bowl Title, or Pittsburgh bringing back another championship bringing their total to 7. In the NFC I’d call it a toss up as to who will win the game but over in the AFC since it’s a New England home game they have the slight advantage added to the fact they they been in every AFC Championship game since the 2011-12 season however they have only won two of those game so perhaps Pittsburgh should have the advantage. Vegas odd currently have Patriots by 5.5 and Atlanta by 4.
History has happened after a very long time we finally have a Championship title for the Chicago Cubs it has been 108 years. Raise the White Flag. It was a well played game on both sides who would have thought we’d get a tied game in the ninth, a rain delay and extra innings baseball. It was fitting for the gravity of this game. Come April 3(10), 2017 the Anno Catulorum “In the Year of the Cubs” will read AC000000 for the first time ever. It was a tremendous game and a wonderful game for all involved it looked like the Cubs had it wrapped up early but Cleveland put up a fight and evened it up. The game was a nail biter for sure and it seemed like it might not end this way or even go longer as in the bottom of the tenth, after the Cubs went up two runs in the top, Cleveland had the winning run up at bat but grounded out to end the game. This result is the opposite of what happened in the NBA Championship where Cleveland came back from a 3-1 deficit. The best part of this is that both team seems to have a young core that if they stay healthy can be dominate for years to come. Already, the Cubs are favorites to win the series in 2017. Opening day is only in a short five months away can I am sure that fans can’t wait for baseball to start again.
Well the NBA season is over and we have a surprising team as the winner. For the first time in 52 years Cleveland finally has a Championship team. LeBron James is now a three time NBA Champion and Finals MVP, besting Kobe in Finals MVP and getting halfway to Michael Jordan’s six. The last time a major championship was won in Cleveland was way back when the Browns had a good team and won the NFL Championship back in 1964. Could this be the year when another long championship drought ends? So with the ending will we remember that Golden State basically dominated the regular season winning 73 game and it took until the end of May for Golden State to lose consecutive games. Sportswriters are going to be saying that this NBA Finals is when LeBron showed us who he can be, it was the first time that he won a title as an underdog and he’s got years left in his career, so he might reach MJ’s 6, but it doubtful he will get to Bill Russell’s record 11 Championships.
Will winning a Championship beat the “curse” and will other major sports teams, the Indians and Browns, do anything that seems remarkable this year. Sure the Indians are leading the AL Central as of right now so they might at least make the playoffs but it is a bit early to be sure about this. In the NFL it seems unlikely that the Browns will be much better this year compared to last year. Sure they got rid of “Johnny Football” but brought the RGIII circus into town to fill the void and there are already article about if/how RGIII will be the starting QB come opening day.
