Great American Read

The results have finally came out and the top 100 books/book series are actually in a list. There were some expected results at the top but a couple of surprises as well. At the top of the list is To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, which seems reasonable since everyone has read this book at sometime while they were in school. Next on the list was the Outlander series, a currently eight book series by Diana Gabaldon, this book series has been made into a television series on Starz. Followed by the Harry Potter Series, Pride and the Prejudice and Lord of the Rings. This rounds out the top 5 and the only real surprise for me was the Outlander series. I was a fan of A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole making it up to 58 on the list.

It is nice to see America interested in books for at least a bit of time. Of the 100 books on the list I’ve read a quarter of them and some of them in my opinion aren’t the greatest of book but other seemed to pass the test of time. It would have been interesting if it was only books by American authors. It is a nice overview of what we consider good books so if you want take a look and read some of these books. .
