Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983)

Return of the Jedi is the one episode that I have watched the most. It was one of those movies that me and my sisters would agree upon when out parents went out. Sure there are spoilers.

We left off with Lando going after Boba Fett to find where Boba had taken Han and Luke recovering after having his hand sliced off by Darth Vader with Leia and the droids. Vader arrives at the second Death Star which is\has been under construction since the end of Episode III if you remember way back then or at least that is my impression of it since it would take a long time to build one, let alone two. Vader arrives at the Death Star to supervise hoping that him being there would speed up construction efforts. Back on Tatooine C-3PO and R2-D2 make their way to Jabba the Hutt’s palace, remember him from Episode I and IV, this is all part of the plan to rescue Han Solo. Leia comes dressed as a bounty hunter with Chewbacca this gets them in but Leia rushes to save Han and is caught. Leia become Jabba’s slave and wears a metal bikini and Han is put into a cell with Chewbacca. Then Luke arrives and saves the day. After freeing everyone from Jabba’s Luke heads to Dagobah to finish training as a Jedi  but when he arrive Yoda is dying but Yoda confirms that Vader was once Anakin Skywalker and that there is another. Yoda tells Luke his training is complete and dies. Force ghost Obi-Wan then shows up and tell Luke that Obi-Wan told Luke a version of the story about Luke’s father as well as the fact the other Skywalker is his twin sister Leia. Luke goes back to the Rebel Alliance and joins in the final assault on this new Death Star. Luke joins the small squad with Leia, Han, Chewie, R2 and C-3PO, which will be take out the shield generator down on the forest moon, but as then near the moon Luke realizes that he might have jeopardized the mission by coming since Vader is on the Death Star.  They run into Ewoks, Luke get himself captured and taken aboard the Death Star where we have a final showdown between father and son in front of the Emperor.

Over the years perhaps because I watched it so many times it’s my least favorite of the original trilogy. However this is needs to be watched simply for the conclusion of the story. It will be interesting to see how the trilogy relates to the new trilogy and also how they refer to the prequels. I’m sure Disney will eventually release an unaltered version of the film but it would be interesting as well to see them tweak the prequel trilogy in like 2019 since I am sure we can all agree that some tweaks would make the prequels better films.
