These are the awards which shuffle through all the major networks (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC) and honors the best in television. Once again what we learn by watching the Emmy’s is that the cable reigns supreme once again, with HBO once again on top taking home both Best Drama and Comedy for Game of Thrones and Veep.
It wasn’t that exciting of an award show since so many favorites took home the prize with the one exception of Amy Poehler for Parks and Rec but Mr John Hamm finally won for Mad Men, and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart took home awards for best talk show as well as writing and direction, so most of the shows which ended took home an award. The biggest winner of the night was HBO taking home 10 awards over all the most by Olive Kitteridge which basically won everything it was nominated for. Close behind was Comedy Central with four awards winning both variety talk and sketch awards (The Daily Show and Inside Amy Schumer). This was the first year that an acting award went to a streaming show Jeffery Tambor picked up outstanding actor in a comedy for Transparent and also marked a huge win for transgender people with Jill Soloway giving a shout out for TransEquality.com while accepting her Directing for a Comedy series award. Perhaps with more eyes and ears turned toward this issue something can be done with Trans rights. Finally history was made tonight as well when Viola Davis become the first African American to win for Lead Actress in a Drama.
