Last week we looked at the various other prayers to say with the rosary but prayer beads are also popular in other religions as well.
The Buddhist and Hindu use prayer beads typically they have 108 beads an they are used as a counting device on which they say a mantra or chants. Even in Islam they use prayer beads or Misbaha while reciting the 99 names of Allah. In Judaism although they don’t have a beaded rope like a rosary typically on prayer shawls there are knots so that somewhat similar to prayer beads.
Then there are worry beads which have no religious connotation but are used in Greek culture. It’s interesting that there is a common thread through all these religions across the globe. Perhaps this can lead us to some other connections when we need to solve the problems of the world.
