Yesterday there was some cool news released about the trip Pope Francis will take to DC in September, we know he’s going to be going to the Meeting of Families or whatever it is in Philly and there is wide speculation that he will be doing a UN speech while he is New York. Now we have learned that Pope Francis will be addressing a joint session of Congress on September 24. This will be the first time that a Pope will be meeting with Congress as a whole.
Considering that about 30 percent of Congress is Catholic it is pretty cool, I really wonder how much he will take those Catholic to task for supporting things that are against Catholic Social Teaching. I guess it will mostly be focused on helping the poor, the environment, championing solidarity and working together for the better good. Will the politicians listen to the Pope or will it be like normal and they continue fighting between the two political parties. The only problem with this is we have to wait all the way until September to hear what His Holiness has to say.
