Baseball: I ran across an interesting article about the MASN dispute between the Baltimore Orioles and the Washington Nationals. For those not in the DC metro area, when the Expos moved to Washington and became the Nationals, baseball had to make a deal with Peter Angelos, owner of the Orioles, so he would get revenue from this new team as he argued that losing Washington DC would hurt his bottom line as it is a part of the Orioles market. So Angelos created the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network and under the deal only had to pay that Nationals some paltry sum to broadcast their games, that is up until 2011 when the Nationals would become part owners of the station with the Orioles. Well as it turns out Bud Selig has come out and ruled in favor of the Nationals who are asking for more money. However it looks like this problem is not going away any time soon.
Movies: Since Comic-Con was a real let down in the movie real I was surprised to see that the first trailer of the last movie in the Hobbit trilogy The Battle of the Five Armies. It is once again an epic trailer and we can only hope that this is a fitting conclusion and somehow tie into Lord of the Rings a bit as well. Peter Jackson has worked in Middle Earth for the past two decades and there isn’t anything else he can make. I wonder what he plans on doing next, I know the next Tintin movie is coming sometime soon but that was filmed in like 2013. The Hobbit was at Comic Con and did have a cool panel, moderated by Stephen Colbert in his costume from the movie, Entertainment Weekly has an embedded video the whole thing on their site, if you are a fan it’s worth a watch.
One thing that I am really waiting for is a trailer for Into the Woods, which is coming out this Christmas. It is a film adaptation of the Sondheim/Lapine musical Into the Woods with Anna Kendrick, Meryll, Johnny Depp, James Corden, and a bunch of other people. The folks over at Broadway World are saying that a trailer will be with Guardian of the Galaxy which opens this week
